The Village on Blain development was conceived as a superior accommodation facility, servicing the town, mining staff as well as mining industry contractors and sales representatives.



The site design required ensuited single person’s rooms, 4 star motel units, a modular kitchen facility to marry to a site built restaurant and housing for the manager and chef on site.

The 191 rooms are split into 16 duplex motel units and 175 modular ensuited rooms in 3 or 4 unit configurations.

A key requirement from the developer was to have greater amenity for customers of the accommodation centre, with minimum noise and by providing a high level of fit out and services.

Each room is supplied with a factory fitted split system air-conditioning system and arrives on site fully fitted out with cabinetry and furnishings. An ensuite consisting of toilet, basin and shower completes each room.

One particular feature of the units is the low level of noise from outside or adjoining rooms, allowing residents to have undisturbed rest. To facilitate a high level of acoustic separation, all of the accommodation units are built on transportable concrete slabs with noise dampening dividing walls. As a result minimal noise from voices, entertainment and most importantly the impact noises of neighbouring residents moving about, is largely eliminated.

An initial stage of construction, including 75 rooms, laundry and administration, was handed over after a 3 month building period. As a complete project, handover to the operators of the final units was 8 months from the start of construction.

Installation for the builder, Pantex, was made easier by being able to position the concrete bases directly onto prepared footings. The “slab on ground” look of the facility also makes for easy access, involves less cost in stairs/decks and gives a feeling of permanence to the village.

The Village on Blain enjoys a high level of occupancy and positive feedback from customers, making it a financially successful enterprise for the client and a benefit to the town and surrounding industry.
