The future of building in Australia
The future of the Australian building industry is in streamlined building systems of prefabricated homes and on site erection, says Prof. Ron Johnston from the Australian Centre for Innovation. The benefits to builders of streamlined systems will be faster construction times, fewer trades required on site, higher quality of finish and greater profitability.

Largely these advances are an extension of the move towards off site assembly of building components, including frames, trusses and windows. Increasing proportions of a building are now completed in a controlled factory environment and delivered to site for installation.

This website outlines how you can be part of the next step in this evolution of building in Australia. A simple two step process to take a building from slab to lockup will be described; firstly through off site manufacture of finished walls and secondly the onsite erection and finishing of the building shell.

What is Panelisation in North America?
In the US market, the factory manufacture of complete wall sections that are erected onsite is known as panelisation. The materials used vary from timber and ply through to cement and steel, depending on the sophistication and expertise of the manufacturer.

The driving force for panelisation is the increasing cost and complexity in managing site labour coupled with the speed of construction over traditional building methods.

The North American National Association of Home Builders report that panelised houses are the fastest growing segment of the US housing market.

Panelisation for Australia
For the Australian market, Monarch Panelisation Systems is delivering exterior wall panels, utilising heavy gauge steel framing and lightweight concrete cladding with high performance coatings.

The opportunity to utilise Monarch Building Systems skills in developing a panelisation system arose from understanding the frustrations and inefficiencies in traditional building methods combined with many years experience in steel framing. Every part of the panelisation development has challenged the status quo of building materials and methods, yet at the same time has taken into account the builders need for simplicity, control and flexibility in their business.

MBS have invested substantial resources into materials development and maximising building system performance. The use of robotics and state of the art machinery, ensures a high standard of accuracy and consistency of wall panels produced.
